Rio Olympics 2016, Opening Ceremony Kick off on Friday night / Saturday, what time does it start and what TV channel shows it?

What's happening?

It's the opening ceremony of the 2016 Rio Olympic games! Brace yourselves for a wonderful time.


When is it?

On Friday 5th August. But really it's on Saturday 6 August, because of that pesky time difference. Here, we'll explain

Where can I watch it?
Right here on the Telegraph Sport website. Alan Tyers will be covering the event live and we'll have a live stream too. It's also on big BBC: BBC One, if you're after a second screen. Coverage starts at 23.40 and runs , slightly terrifyingly, until 04.00. 


Well, that's quite the question. It's kicking off at a civilised 20.00 local time, which means midnight on Friday night / Saturday morning if you're following it from the British Isles. We'd guess it'll take about four hours in total.
