The Nigerian Army says it has killed at least seven members of the Niger Delta militia, popularly known as Bakassi Strike Force.
It said the militants were shot dead early Saturday as they made attempts to attack government troops.
A spokesperson for the Army, Sani Usman, said in a statement that the militants were led by a wanted militia leader, Benjamin Ene, who goes by an alias, “G1”.
Mr. Usman said troops recovered arms from the militants.
“Items recovered are 250 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, Rocket propelled Gun luncher, GPMG Belt links and various charms were recovered while several others escaped with gunshot wounds. No causality from the military,” the military said.
