Death Toll In Indonesia Boat Sinking is 54

The death toll from an overcrowded boat accident off an Indonesian island has risen to 54 on the third day of a search for survivors, police said on Friday.
Updates provided by Indonesian police and rescue agency officials on the incident which happened on Wednesday revealed that six people are still missing with more bodies found.

The speedboat carrying 101 migrant workers and their families – most of them illegal – capsized in Indonesia’s Batam
island stormy weather and 41 of the passengers were rescued with six people still missing.
Airlangga, a police spokesman for Riau Islands, which include Batam, put the latest death toll at 54.

Officials say two of the three crew who survived the sinking have been arrested on suspicion of a shipping violation.

The fate of the third crew member was unknown.
