Fire has gutted 100
shops in Jos Terminus Market, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.
According to
Alhassan Barde, Executive Secretary, Plateau State Emergency Management Agency
(SEMA)), the fire, which started around midnight, raged on till the early hours
of Thursday.
He said that the
cause of the fire was yet to be determined, but that affected shops were
consumed totally.
“The quantity of
goods destroyed is yet to be ascertained, but we have just had a meeting with
officials of the Jos Terminus Market to enable us interact with the traders
whose shops were involved.
“ It is after the
meeting that we shall carry out an assessment of the situation so as to
determine the extent of damage and the next line of action,” he said. (NAN)
