The Joint
Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has insisted that admission processes
for 2016/2017 academic calendar year for both the Federal and state-owned
universities will come to an end on Wednesday, November 30.
In September,
the the JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, had fixed tomorrow as the
deadline, in a statement he issued, during the technical meeting on 2016
admissions to first choice institutions at Bayero University Kano (BUK).
In the
statement the JAMB Registrar said it was imperative for all Vice-Chancellors,
Rectors and Provosts to abide by the agreement and ensure its implementation.
Speaking on
the matter, the Public Relations Officer, JAMB, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, insisted
that the examination body will not be extending the date.
According to
News Telegraph, at the conclusion of the stakeholders’ meeting held in Owerri,
Imo State, recently, Benjamin said that all the federal and state universities
must adhere strictly to the November 30 deadline, while the polytechnics,
colleges of education and private universities can enjoy between two to three
weeks of extension.
He said the
institutions are expected to submit all their admission lists on or before
tomorrow and that as soon as approved by the body, the candidates can be
contacted.
The online
newspaper quoted the PRO as saying that the extension would be used to perfect
the admission processes for other levels of the higher institutions.
He added that
those who are not admitted by the universities could be considered by the
various polytechnics, colleges of education and private universities.
He said; “As
at today, I can confirm to you that JAMB is standing by the deadline and there
may be no going back. We expect everyone to comply because we took the decision
together.”
