Ex-NFL star Aaron
Hernandez passed away early Wednesday morning after hanging himself in
his prison cell.
In case you
forgot, the former New England Patriots tight end was convicted back in 2015 for murdering Odin
Lloyd.
However, the disgraced footballer was JUST acquitted in a double murder case and
his lawyer was confident that Hernandez's other murder conviction would be
overturned. Thus, many sports fans are shocked to hear that Aaron has taken his
own life.
It's said the
American athlete was found unresponsive in his cell at the Souza-Baranowski
Correctional Center in Lancaster, MA around 3 a.m. on Wednesday
morning. A statement from the state Department of Correction revealed:
"Mr.
Hernandez was in a single cell in a general population unit. [He] hanged
himself utilizing a bedsheet that he attached to his cell window. Mr. Hernandez
also attempted to block his door from the inside by jamming the door with
various items."
Reportedly,
upon discovering Aaron's body, the correction center had Hernandez rushed to UMass
Leominster hospital. The scandalized athlete was pronounced dead at
4:07 a.m. He was only 27 years old.
Despite
Aaron's lawyer's belief they'd get his murder conviction overturned, things
were still pretty gloomy for the University Of Florida alum as
he was serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole. Both the Massachusetts
State Police and
prison plan to do a formal investigation into Aaron's
passing.
Regardless,
the coroner has since classified Hernandez's death as a suicide. Stay tuned for
more details as this story is developing.
