Political Forum has commended the Commissioner representing Delta State on the
board of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Dr Ogaga
Ifowodo for
listing Isi-Emevor road Isoko North Local Government Area, among roads to be
awarded by the commission its 2017 budget.
The group, in
a statement by Mr. Dickson Ijebu, noted that it was the first time Isi-Emevor
appeared on the commission’s tender list, saying “Isi seven communities with about 55% of
total population in Emevor is a good example of political, economic and social
deprivation and starvation.
“The marginalisation and neglect of Isi people is
brutal and unimaginable. All we are asking for is the basic fundamentals for
human existence and these are in education, shelter, potable water, food,
participatory governance as consenting citizens of the social contract.”
“What
the NDDC has done resurrected our hope, this is a clear demonstration that the
people of Isi will be counted as beneficiaries of dividends of democracy, while
patiently waiting for the execution, we hope that the Commissioner Representing
Delta State on the board of NDDC Dr Ogaga Ifowodo will be kind enough to make
Isi recover all the lost years in terms of appointments and projects.
“Isi
communities have been abandoned with unexecuted budget allocations that find
resting places in private pockets of those in the corridors of power. Apart
from those in the riverine area, Isi-Emevor people are the most marginalized,
maligned, despised, vilified and abandoned group throughout Isoko land, let us
collectively mobilize in ensuring that the marginalization is stopped”
