Rivers State
Governor, Nyesom Wike, has said the All Progressives Congress (APC) has no
electoral value.
Wike said
this when he commissioned Igbogo Road in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of
the state.
He alleged
APC’s poor performance has devalued the
party and pointed out that Nigerians have discovered
that the party is full of empty promises, with no accompanying implementation.
“Several
promises, not one fulfilled. I have challenged
the APC to come to Rivers state
and say what they have done. If not for the dependence on security agencies for rigging of elections, no APC
member will come forward to contest elections.”
The governor
said if democracy is practised in line
with the rule of law, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members would have gone to
sleep, knowing they will walk over APC in 2019.
On
developments in the state, Wike said
while other states ended their Democracy Day on Monday, his administration
woulwilld continue commissioning of several projects in the coming weeks.
He said for
the people of Akpor Kingdom, the administration has executed projects in all the 10 communities of the
area.
Wike also
disclosed that the state government will start to reach out to supporters, in
form of direct empowerment.
Earlier,
Commissioner of Works, Iheanyichuwu Bathuel, said the Igbogo Road has revived
the community and added value to the residential houses in the area.
The Choba
community, in appreciation of the new road, conferred a chieftaincy title on
governor Wike.
Meanwhile,
the governor has berated prominent Rivers citizens without homes in the state
and accused them of teeming up with outsiders to fight the state.
Wike stated
this during a state banquet to mark the second anniversary of his
administration, at the Government House in Port Harcourt, the state capital.
He added
that only those who have houses in the state will rise in defence of Rivers.
“Anybody,
who loves Rivers, it doesn’t matter the political party you belong, you owe it
a duty to protect the state.
“It is key
to us as we have no other state than Rivers. If a child does not have a house
at home, you know that child does not mean well for his parents, his community,
local government area and state.
“Those, who
don’t own houses in Rivers are those who want the state to be destroyed. All of
us, who have one home or the other, owe it a duty to protect the state.”
Governor
Wike said he would always stand in defence of Rivers because he had stakes in
the state, as one of its prominent residents.
“All elders here, you can sleep with your two eyes closed. I will not
disappoint you.
Wike said
the transformation of the state will continue and added that his administration
will build on the achievements recorded in the last two years.
