After three
days of canceling its flight out of London Gatwick Airport, a Med-View Airline
jet finally arrived in Lagos, Nigeria on Tuesday morning with some of its
abandoned passengers.
The airline,
for the third day running, has also pushed back its departure time for its
flight from Murtala Muhammed International Airport to London Gatwick Airport.
Med-View’s
flight, which was estimated to arrive at 05:10 hours, finally arrived at the Lagos
airport at 09:15.
A source
close to the airline confided in our correspondent that only a few of the
affected passengers returned to the country early this morning, while others
who were originally scheduled to depart London last Wednesday are still
stranded.
Med-View has
yet to explain why its London passengers were abandoned, but our correspondent
gathered that the airline used a wet-leased aircraft to transport some
abandoned passengers on Tuesday.
One of the
affected passengers, who identified himself simply as Olawale, spoke to our
correspondent about his experience with the troubled airline.
“Most of us
who were scheduled to return to Nigeria since last Wednesday are still in
London. We don’t know why we were not given priority by the carrier. As it
stands, no one is talking to us about our movement. This is very bad and
unexpected from an airline that has barely spent 18 months on the route.
“Last
December, some of us who were supposed to travel with Med-View, expressed the
same fate and unfortunately now, I am caught in the web. If I return to that
flight, it shows that I am a fool. This is going to be my last with Med-View,”
Olawale said.
Meanwhile,
the flight out of Lagos, which was scheduled to depart Nigeria at 13:30 hours
on Tuesday, has once again been shifted forward to 21:00 hours while the
check-in will commence at 16:00 hours, according to a source close to the
airline.
The source
told our correspondent who was at the international wing of the airport that
all the affected passengers have been notified of the shift in time of
departure.
The source
attributed “logistics” to the delay in taking off as scheduled, but promised
that all backlogs would be cleared by this Friday.
