The All Progressives Congress APC has cleared all its 12 aspirants for
its forthcoming Anambra governorship election primaries.
Announcing the decision of the screening committee Saturday in Abuja,
National Organising Secretary of the party, Sen. Osita Izunaso expressed
optimism in the ability of the party to win the main election. “I have scanned
through the report and I discovered that all of you have been cleared to
contest. They have scored you in line with the party guidelines and some of you
have A’s some B’s and others C’s, but the most important thing is that you have
been cleared to contest”, he said. He said by Monday, “the appeal committee would
sit and if there are no petitions, they will approve what the screening
committee has done”. Earlier, chairman of the screening committee and deputy
governor of Ondo state, Mr Agboola Ajayi said the aspirants have all signed an
undertaken to support whoever emerges as candidate. He said though “one or two
petitions were submitted to the committee”, investigations revealed that the
petitions lacked any substantial evidence to to effect the disqualification of
those concerned. The 12 aspirants among whom is a woman are; Chukwuma Paul;
Madu Nonso I.; Moghalu George N.; Nwibe Bart; Nwike Patrick N.; Nwoye Tony;
Obidigbo Chike; Okonwko D.; Onunkwo Johnbosco O.; Uba Andy E.; Uchegbu Adoabi
K. and Uzoh Obinna. The party’s primary election is slated for next while the
primary Election Appeal is scheduled for Monday, August 21. Answering questions
after receiving his certificate of clearance, one of the aspirants, Sen. Andy
Uba denied speculations that he was never screened. “I had people who were
telling malicious lies that I was locked out of the screening room. For me, it
is only God that gives power. “I am happy that they have given us the delegates
list today. I do not care so much about who and who are on the list insofar as
they are Anambra people. What matters is for us to approach the delegates and
sell our programmes to them. “I want to assure our party that the government in
Anambra will start packing its load soon. What is important is that APC will
win the election. We have signed an undertaken to support whoever wins the
primary election, so there is no question of anyone leaving the party to
another if he does not win the ticket”, he said.
