The Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice,
Abubakar Malami, has denied any face-off with the Acting Chairman, Economic and
Financial
Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu.
There were reports of a letter emanating from the office of AGF,
directing the anti-graft agency to forward 35 case files of ex- governors and
other high profile corruption cases the agency is prosecuting for vetting and
further directives.
The AGF, who spoke yesterday at a function in the Ministry of Justice,
maintained that there was no rift between his office and that of Magu over the
said letter.
The Minister, who declined further comment on the issue could not confirm
the existence or otherwise of the controversial letter.
When further confronted with the fact that the letter even formed subject
of discussion in most electronic media yesterday morning, Malami said he did
not watch the programme and would not comment any further on it.
In a statement by its spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, the EFCC also denied
having any rift with Malami. The agency said it complies with relevant laws in
the discharge of its functions. The commission however kept mum on the letter.
“For the avoidance of any doubt, the EFCC, wishes to categorically state
that it is compliant with all provisions of law and has no intention to stoke a
misunderstanding over requests from the office of the Attorney-General and
Minister of Justice,” Uwujaren stated.
