NATIONAL
Coordinator/Convener, Pan Niger Delta People Congress, PNDPC, Chief Mike
Loyibo, yesterday, said the group intends to hold talks with President
Muhammadu Buhari to reverse the latest lopsided appointments in the Nigerian
National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, maintaining that it was a desecration of
the principles of federal character. Loyibo Loyibo, who spoke on phone with
Vanguard, said: “The recent shake-up in NNPC does not promote the unity of
Nigeria. It is a clear violation of the federal character principle.
It will
make the youths and our people to lose faith and confidence in the peace
process in our region and the government. “I want to express my disappointment
to the people concerned as the explanation I got was not satisfactory. For us
in PNDPC, we will make efforts to see Mr.
President to address the injustice done to our region. Nobody should
treat us like a second-class citizen, we produce the oil and we should be
treated as such.
“The action shows that government is deliberately sidelining
our people from appointments in this dispensation. It is totally unacceptable
to us, we have given so much to Nigeria to be treated this way and I was
shocked when I read about it. “This kind of injustice is what make our people
believe that the current Federal Government is not sincere with the peace deal
and not ready to bring development to our area. It will encourage our boys to
use it as an excuse to disturb oil productions. “They should know where we are
coming from. From less than one million barrels production, today, because of
our efforts and the cooperation of the boys, oil production went up to 2.2
million barrels and any negative response signal, our people will lose faith in the government.
They are pushing us to a situation where we will retreat and withdraw.”
