Three
officers of the National Drug and Law Enforcement Agent (NDLEA) were gunned
down by unknown gunmen in Okene Local Government Area of Kogi State at
the
weekend.
The attack
occurred on Friday evening around 8:30p.m. after the gunmen reportedly ambushed
six officers of the agency while on duty at one of their post around the main
gate of the Federal College of Education (FCE) Okene.
Three
officers, Onwumere Nicholas, Peter Ebun and Abdulrahman Musa, lost their lives
on spot while the other officers escaped with injuries.
According to
an eyewitness, Mr. Joel Abraham, the hoodlums ran away with two rifle guns
belonging to the officers.
Confirming
the incident, the Kogi State Commandant of NDLEA, Alhaji Idris Bello, said
three of his men fell to the bullets in Okene, while on patrol.
Bello added
that NDLEA together with other sister agencies in the state have put all
necessary plans in motion to arrest the perpetrators of the heinous act.
