International Schools Chess League organised by the Nigeria C
hess Federation
commenced at the weekend at Queen’s College, Lagos with over 20 schools in
attendance.
According to
the NCF, the National Friends of Chess tourney held in September 29,
International Schools Chess, MGi Chess, Scrabble and Draught tournaments slated
for November 2 to 5 and the First Flaming Knights Chess Challenge (Fide Rated)
to take place from November 9 to 12 are tournaments organised to prepare the
federation for the forthcoming Nigeria Chess Open Championship, which date is
yet to be announced.

Officer, Babatunde Ogunsiku said yesterday that the organisation was planning
to bring the world’s best players to contest in the Nigeria Chess Open, adding
that the International Schools Chess League, which has been running for 11
years, is another programme aimed at discovering talents in schools.
He disclosed
that in the last edition, Kings College won the senior section while Queens
College clinched the junior section, adding that at the just concluded Friends
of Chess Championship, International Master-elect, Femi Balogun and Fide
Master, Osunfuyi Abimbola gave a good account of themselves as they secure a
tie.The Schools International Chess League will end on November 11 at Grange
School G.RA, Ikeja.
