WARRI—Egbema-Ijaw
people of Warri North Local Government Area, Delta State, have urged Governor
Ifeanyi Okowa to prevail on the leadership of Itsekiri ethnic
nationality in
the area, especially his predecessor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan and lawmaker, Mr.
Michael Diden, to concede the chairmanship of the council to the Ijaw.
Leaders and
stakeholders of Egbema-Ijaw took the resolution at a meeting in Warri to review
the political situation in Warri North. In a communiqué endorsed by three
leaders, Chief Edmond Doyah, Mr Joel Bisina and Pastor Phillip Gbasin, they
said that Egbema-Ijaw has not produced the chairman of the council in 26 years.
“Governor Ifeanyi Okowa should not preside over this age long injustice.
He
should prevail on the Itsekiri political leadership in Warri North, especially
Dr. Uduaghan and Diden, to concede the chairmanship of the council to the Ijaw
of Egbema.
“Whereas since the creation of the council, no person from Ijaw
extraction of Egbema Kingdom has been chairman of the council, commissioner of
the State Executive Council or the constituency representative at the state
House of Assembly; “Be it resolved that the only constituted authority to
negotiate political power arrangement in Egbema as at today, is the ‘7- man
Egbema Dialogue Committee’ that no
group or person has power to speak for the Egbema people other than the
committee. “Be it resolved that we reaffirm unequivocally that any other
representation is not from the Egbema people,” they said.
