A member of
the House of Representatives, Ehiozuwa Agbonayinma yesterday accused Minister
of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Chief Audu Ogbeh, of
complicity in the
reversal of the appointment of the Executive Director of the Nigeria Institute
for Oil Palm Research (NIFOR), Dr. Napoleon Aisuene.
At a
briefing in Abuja, Agbonnayinma (PDP, Edo) said it was regrettable to find that
after the appointment of Aisueni, as s the chief executive officer of the
agency, as duly conveyed to him by the office of the minister, three months
ago, the ministry would come out to declare that the appointment was done in
error.
He said the
appointment followed the expiration of the tenure of Aisuene as acting
executive director, following which he was recalled by the minister through a
letter to resume as the boss of the organization.
According to
the lawmaker, not minding that the appointment was duly conveyed, the minister
was doing all that was possible to nullify Aisuene ‘s elevation. He said there
was also attempt by some forces to continue with the impunity that Nigerians
have been fighting against, saying the decision to remove Aisueni should not be
allowed to stand.
He added:
“The minister, Audu Ogbe had directed for the appointment of directors off
various institute including Dr. Napoleon Aisuene on July 3 as acting CEO.“The
minister later said the appointment was done in error. The appointment and that
of 13 others followed due process. The minister is biased by his affinity with
one of the people involved.
“I use this
forum to call on all well-meaning Nigerians to call on Ogbeh to allow equity
and probity stand. It’s an injustice. I want to appeal and plead with the Hon
Minister to do the right thing.”
