Hadiza Bala Usman has
been appointed Managing Director of Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA).
A statement by
Yetunde Sonaike on behalf of the Minister of Trasport, Rotimi Amaechi, said
President Muhammadu Buhari made the appointment, which took effect yesterday.
Other appointments,
all of which also took effect yesterday, are Mohammed Bello-Koko (Executive
Director, Finance; Prof. Idris Abubakar (Executive Director, Engineering); and
Dr. Sekonte Davies (Executive Director, Marine Operations).
Mrs. Usman, 40 and an
indigene of Kaduna State, was previously Chief of Staff to Malam Nasir
El-Rufai, the current governor of that state.
She holds a B.Sc.
Degree in Business Administration from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and a
Post Graduate in Development Studies from the University of Leeds, the United
Kingdom in 2009.
She started her
Career in June 2000as a Research Assistant with the Centre for Democratic
Development and Research Training, Zaria, a non-governmental organization. Between July 2000 and August 2004, she worked
at the Bureau of Public Enterprises as an Enterprise Officer.
She was hired by the
UNDP for the Federal Capital Territory Administration from October 2004 to
January 2008 as a Special Assistant to the Minister on Project
Implementation. She worked as Director
of Strategy of Good Governance Group, another non-governmental organization,
from 2011 to July 2015.
