A 62-year-old
man accused of putting hydrochloric acid inside a lubricant dispenser in a gay
club has been arrested and charged.
The suspect
went into the Aarows club venue, located in Rydalmere, Sydney, on Saturday,
police said.
He then
allegedly filled a dispenser inside a room with the highly corrosive acid.
However alarms
that had been fitted onto items in the room were then triggered, and staff
stopped the man as he tried to leave.
Police were
then alerted, and made an arrest.
The acid he is
accused of putting into the dispenser can burn and scar skin when it makes
contact.
He has now
been charged with administering poison with the intent to cause injury,
distress or pain, and malicious damage.
One club-goer,
who asked not to be named, said: "Hydrochloric acid is not the best sort
of thing to be playing with.
"It could
be anything really. People are perverted".
The suspect is
expected to appear in court next month.
