Manchester
City player Bersant Celina was caught drunk at at the wheel of his Mercedes by
police after his girlfriend tipped officers off following a row at a
nightclub.
The
19-year-old midfielder was one-and-a-half times the legal alcohol limit when
officers stopped him at the wheel in Manchester earlier this month.
He had driven
his Mercedes from the Great Northern Warehouse onto Watson Street after an
argument with his girlfriend at nearby VIP nightspot Club Liv early on Sunday,
August 7, the Manchester Evening News reported.
But she
followed him on foot and rang police when she found him. Officers were called
to the scene at 3.30am and smelled booze on Celina’s breath as they spoke to
him, Manchester’s magistrates heard.
He was
arrested and found to have 57 microgrammes of alcohol on his breath - the legal
limit is 35mg.
The Kosovo
international was hauled into court and pleaded guilty to drink driving. He was
fined £2,625 and banned from the wheel for 12 months. He was also ordered to
pay a further £255 in costs.
Celina went on
City’s pre-season tour of China but is heading to Dutch side FC Twente on a
season-long loan.
