Apprehended Arepo vandals: Group urges IG to probe Daniel Ezekiel’s arrest

WARRI—Ijaw People Development Initiative, IPD, has petitioned the Inspector General of Police over a controversial police report claiming that its spokesperson, Daniel Ezekiel, abducted August 2, by unknown security agents in Delta State, was
among the seven suspected Arepo vandals/ militants apprehended by the police in Edo State on September 13.

The group, in a petition by its lawyer, Omes Ogedegbe, said: “The petitioners are surprised as the alleged name, ‘Daniel Ezekiel’ in the police report published in the media, was same with its spokesperson, Daniel Ezekiel, who was allegedly abducted by an All Progressives Congress, APC, member in conjunction with an unknown security outfit since August 2, 2016 and same was reported at Nigeria Police, Zone 5, Benin City, which had invited the party chieftain for interview.”

It demanded a thorough investigation on the identity of the Daniel Ezekiel contained in the said police report, saying:

“The issue of the alleged abduction of Daniel Ezekiel has been lodged in Zone 5, which is now being investigated by the Anti- Kidnapping Unit of Police in Zone 5.”

The group said that it suspected the name, Daniel Ezekiel, in the police report to be its abducted spokesperson, and urged the IG to investigate the report.

“Daniel Ezekiel is neither a militant nor a pipeline vandal as alleged by the police. He has no business with fleeing Arepo militants.

He never lived in Arepo or Lagos; he is a rights activist and a businessman and naming Daniel Ezekiel among fleeing Arepo militants is shocking.

“We need an explanation. How could a man kidnapped for over one month and his whereabouts unknown be named among fleeing suspected Arepo militants apprehended on September 13, 2016?” NANGUARD
