Barcelona are reportedly
ready to offer Lionel Messi a new deal which would keep him at the Nou Camp
until the end of his career.
According to
The Sun, Barca want to end speculation linking Messi with a move to the Premier
League by agreeing a ‘mega new deal’.
However, Barca
won’t open talks with Mthe Argentina international before they’ve agreed new
deals with Luis Suarez and Ivan Rakitic.
The
29-year-old, who has just two years remaining on his current deal, reportedly
attracted the interest of Chelsea and Man City this summer.
“The president
[Josep Maria Bartomeu] has already said,” Fernandez explained. “This year there
are a number of situations we need to solve.
“As was the
case with Rafinha, Busquets, Neymar and Mascherano, people said we wouldn’t
reach an agreement, but in the end there were no problems.
“I’m delighted
that he’s [Messi] the No.1 in the world and that he’s with us. We will reach an
agreement. I’m totally convinced.
“There’s no
rush. This season we will reach an agreement. Like we did with Rafinha,
Mascherano, Busi and Neymar.”
Messi has
flown back to Barcelona from international duty after a groin problem ruled him
out of Argentina’s next match against Venezuela.
