The striker
joined Italian giants Inter last week, despite Barca having a transfer
agreement in place with the player's former club
Barcelona are
to report Brazilian club Santos to FIFA for breaching a transfer agreement,
according to reports in Catalunya.
The Spanish
champions are angry that Santos virtually disregarded their first option deal
on young forward Gabriel Barbosa, who joined Inter Milan last week.
Barca paid
around £6million for the first refusal on Barbosa - nicknamed ‘Gabigol’ - in
2013 as part of the transfer that took Neymar to the Nou Camp.
But, according
to SPORT, the Catalans are furious at only being advised of Santos’ agreement
with Inter late on August 29th, with just 48 hours until the end of the window.
The communiqué
from Santos is also reported to have been lacking in details such as payment
structure and future clauses, and without this information Barca advised the
Brasileirao side not to sell Gabigol to Inter.
Nonetheless,
the deal was completed and the Spanish giants are weighing up a legal challenge
in search of compensation from the Sao Paulo club.
While Barca
did manage to sign the forward they wanted this summer in spending £27million
on Valencia’s Paco Alcacer, their ongoing war with Santos over Neymar’s
convoluted transfer could well be muddying the waters with regards to any genuine
interest they had in Gabigol.
