Viewers took
to Twitter to convey their bafflement at the seemingly incorrect logo displayed
on ITV - and even by Slovakia themselves
As England
got their World
Cup qualifying campaign underway against Slovakia this evening ITV
viewers found themselves perplexed by ITV's branding of the match.
Sam Allardyce took
to the dugout for the first time as England boss
with his sights set on the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
But viewers
were left baffled at ITV's 'European qualifiers' signage in the studio,
naturally taking to Twitter to vent their confusion.
The red
carpet rolled out prior to kick-off also had the 'European qualifiers' logo
printed on it.
However UEFA
launched a unified branding for European Championship and World Cup qualifying
back in 2013.
They've even
got their own dedicated Twitter account, see:

Not that
that's stopped everyone jumping in two-footed and arriving at the wrong
conclusion.
One asked:
"What's with all the "European Qualifiers" branding at a World
Cup qualifier?"
Another,
with the help of a few too many emojis took the point-and-laugh approach,
saying: "ITV's got European qualifiers logo for the England match its
World Cup qualifying [sic]".
Another took
a more cautious approach: "Slightly confused this is a WC Qualifier but
everywhere says European Qualifiers...."
In a
statement, they said: "The brand will help enhance the long-term value of
the newly centralised European qualifiers, offering a clear and consistent
brand platform."
Yes, it's
confusing and seemingly pointless, but they are right. Mystery solved.
