Mourners
gathered today for the funerals of a father, mother and their three sons who
died in a horrific murder-suicide .
Alan Hawe will
share a funeral with his wife Clodagh and their children Liam, 13, Niall, 11,
and Ryan, six, this afternoon.
He stabbed
them all in their house in rural Ireland last Monday morning before committing suicide .
Mourners have
been asked to make donations to one of the country's leading suicide charities,
Pieta House, with a collection box being opened during the Requiem Mass.
Irish police
believe Mr Hawe killed his wife and children in their home at Oakdene, in the
town of Barconey near Ballyjamesduff, County Cavan, before hanging himself.
The remains of
the family reposed in Lakelands Funeral Home in Cavan Town for several hours on
Friday with hundreds of people offering condolences and leaving messages of
support.
The funeral service
takes place late this afternoon at St Mary's Church, Castlerahan, and the
family will be laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery.
A memorial
mass has also been arranged for next Tuesday in St Nicholas' Church, Windgap,
Co Kilkenny.
Hawe was
originally from the county and was deputy principal at Castlerahan National
School, near where the family lived.
His wife grew
up in Mount Nugent, County Cavan, and she taught at Oristown National School in
Co Meath.
The killer dad
reportedly left a chilling message saying his family couldn't cope without him
after murdering his
wife and three sons.
Hawe, a deputy
principal, left a number of notes and documents in the house.
One found on
the back door of
the house told visitors to contact police.
Another said
that he killed his family because they would not have been able to cope without
him.
Clodagh's mum
Mary said she has forgiven the man who took the lives of her daughter and
grandchildren.
One close
friend told The Mirror: "Mary has forgiven him. She is beyond heartbroken
but she has forgiven him.
"She said
the man who did this to her daughter and her beautiful boys was not the Alan
she knows and loves."
Anyone
affected by the incident or other incidents can contact the Samaritans on 116
123.
