Patricia
Spann, 43 (left) from Oklahoma is facing jail time after she married her
daughter 25-year-old Misty Spann (right) in March 2016 and police learnt she had previously married
her son, Jody in 2008 but divorced him in 2010 after he filed for
incest.
According to Patricia she married her son to get him out of Military service.
Patricia and
Misty’s relationship was discovered by the Department of Human Services during
a child welfare investigation last month and according to police, Patricia
Spann said she lost custody of her daughter and two sons at birth, and they
were raised by their paternal grandmother.
Patricia was
reunited with her daughter Misty in 2014 and after 'bonding' with her decided
to marry Misty in 2016 which is considered Incest under state laws whether intimacy is involved or not.
A warrant was
issued for the arrest of mother and daughter on Friday last week and they were
both charged with incest and booked into the Stephens County Jail. Then on
Wednesday this week, the two women appeared before Judge Ken Graham and both
pleaded not guilty.
The mother
told police she didn't believe she broke any laws by marrying her daughter
because her name is no longer listed on Misty's birth certificate.
Misty and
Jody's brother Cody Spann told KSWO that his mother manipulated both his sister
and brother into marriage:
'I think she's
worthless she put my sister into this. She forced my sister into this, there's
a lot of people that know it,' he said. For you to want to put your own
daughter through this, what kind of person are you? If that's what you want
that's on you, but none of us kids want that, and now you got my sister behind
bars because of your choices, why don't you let that sit on you as a mom.'
