In a strategic move
to return power to the people as against imposition of executives during the
recent Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, local government and ward congresses,
members of PDP Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State,
under the
auspices of Save Isoko South PDP Group, yesterday, urged the state governor,
Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, to revisit the political crisis in the council.
The governor was
also urged to do justice to the issues raised to avoid the disintegration of
the party in Isoko South, just as they
resolved to ensure that majority of the residents in the council return to PDP.
The crucial meeting held in
Isoko South council, had Prof. Ekoko Abednigo, Chief Etaloku, Sir. M. Sieto,
Chief Dickson Egbare, Chief Obi Eneruvie, Chief Okiyo, Chief Otolo, Chief
Eriri, Chief Igogo, Mr. Vantus Ogboghro, Chief Ovririe, Chief Urhobo and
several other leaders from different wards in attendance and deliberated on the
well being and unity of PDP members in Isoko South. The group condemned the
alleged imposition during the last PDP ward and council executives congresses.
The group, whose aim is to woe aggrieved members of PDP back to the party,
warned that they will be forced to take a decision if nothing was done on the
issue.
Addressing newsmen after the meeting, Co-ordinator of the group, Chief
Dickson Egbare, said: “When you look at the meeting, you will understand that
something is wrong from the recent PDP congress held in Isoko South council.
We
believe in the ideology of the party and remain one, so we have decided to come
together and call on the government led by Governor Okowa, who is the most
senior leader of the party to quickly intervene.
“This call was made several
months ago but no meaningful intervention had taken place. But we still decided
to come together to talk to the people on how they can be steadfast and remain
loyal to the party and Governor Okowa.”
So our aim is to bring together all
members back on track and convince them to remain in the party, but if nothing
is done, then we will take a decision that will not be revealed for now.”
