The Abia state police command has rescued a 15-month-old baby after she
was stolen from her mother in Umuahia.
The Commissioner of Police, Abia state, Mr Leye Oyebade made the
disclosure today, September 14, while briefing newsmen on some of the major
achievements made by the command in recent times.
He noted that the baby, Chinonye, was abducted on Monday, September 12,
by the suspected abductors identified as Lawan Nuhu and Lawal Ahmed, after her
mother, Mrs Chioma Chijindu was drugged at their residence at No. 8 Ohafia
Street, Umuahia.
He disclosed that the suspects were arrested following a tip-off, with
N170,000 cash and a 307 Peugeot car with Reg. No. AZ 166 KWL, recovered from
them.
“During the investigation, the suspects confessed that they drugged the
baby’s mother before escaping with the baby,” He said.
He went on to warn parents to be extra vigilant about their neighbour’s
activities as well as those of strangers in the area.
