Nigeria Politics: 16,723 INEC Officials to partake in Ondo Poll

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has disclosed that a total number of 16,723 personnel will participate in the November 26 governorship election in Ondo State.


The Commission also hinted that it will publish the list of nominated candidates and the official register of voters in the state on Tuesday.
The publication according to the electoral body is in compliance with the relevant sections of the electoral acts.
The INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, Segun Agbaje said the action was in line with section 34 of the Electoral Acts, 2010 (as amended).
According to him, the electoral acts provide that INEC should publish the list of nominated candidates by political parties at least 30 days before the day of an election.
Similarly, he said section 20 of the Electoral Act, 2010 (as amended) provides that the Commission should publish the official register of voters for an election not less than 30 days before the election.
Ondo state is made up of 18 Local Government Areas, 203 Registration centres and 3,010 Polling Units.
Giving a breakdown of the 16,723 personnel to participate in the exercise, the INEC boss explained that one Returning Officer, 18 Local Government Collation Officers, 203 Registration Area Collation Officers, 301 Supervisory Presiding Officers 3,010 Presiding Officers and 11,103 Assistant Presiding Officers (I,II and III) are needed for the election exercise.
Others are 1,321 Assistant Presiding Officers, 621 Reserve Assistant Presiding Officers, 19 Local Government Area Supervisors and 126 Registration Area Cluster Supervisors.Thenation
