PORT
HARCOURT—Rivers State chapter of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has accused the Independent National
Electoral Commission, INEC, of allegedly
manipulating the result of the just
concluded governorship election in Edo State in favour of All Progressives
Congress, APC.
Warning that such alleged irregularity will not be tolerated in
the coming re-run elections in Rivers State,
Publicity Secretary of PDP in the state, Mr Nwanosike Sam, weekend in Port Harcourt, said that the result
finally released by INEC on the election did not tally with what was collated
at most of the polling units in Edo State.
He commended
former President Goodluck Jonathan for giving Nigerians credible elections,
recalling that in an election conducted by the former President, Edo State
people were allowed to freely vote Adams Oshiomole as governor even though he
was in an opposition party. He said: “The result that was announced in Edo
State did not correspond with the
results collated from most of the polling units.
We commend former President
Jonathan for showing Nigerians that he could supervise a credible election. As
an opposition party candidate, the outgoing governor of Edo State won an
election conducted by the PDP. But
today, they will not allow the will of the people in that state to prevail.”
Calling on INEC to fix a date for the re-run elections in Rivers State, the PDP
image maker said the people will resist any attempt by the electoral body to
announce result for Tai Local Government Area of the state, insisting that no
re-run election took place there in the last March 19 re-run election. He later admitted about 1,500
members of the APC in Ubima community, Ikwerre Local Government Area of the
state, who decamped to the PDP. Abiola Owele,
Dike Gladys and others who spoke for
the decampees, said they had to leave the APC because they had allegedly been
abandoned by the party. Vanguardngr
