There was pandemonium in Amai community in the Ukwani Local Government Area of Delta State on Monday following the discovery of a decomposing corpse of a 30-year-old man in a farmland.
Community sources told our correspondent that the victim whose name could not be immediately ascertained was suspected to have been killed by unknown assailants in a neighbouring community and dumped in the farmland.
A leader of the community who spoke on condition of anonymity said the deceased was not an indigene of Amai community, noting that there was a trace of a motorcycle that brought the body of the victim to be dumped in the farm by his suspected killers.
It was gathered that a septuagenarian woman who owned the farmland discovered the corpse in the early hours of Monday. She raised the alarm that drew attention to the incident.
A community source, who identified himself as Simon, confirmed the incident to our correspondent on Tuesday, stressing that palpable tension has gripped residents of the community since the discovery of the lifeless body.
Another source said, “When she saw the corpse, she raised the alarm and drew the attention of residents of the community who rushed to the scene and were shocked to see the corpse.
