Jose Mourinho
will sign two new players at Manchester United in January if Memphis Depay and
Morgan Schneiderlin depart, according to the Manchester Evening News.
Both are
likely to be defenders, with Benfica star Victor Lindelof a key target.
Southampton
captain Jose Fonte is another possibility as Mourinho looks for cover for Eric
Bailly, who is currently injured but is expected to travel to the Africa Cup of
Nations next month.
United showed
interest in Fonte during the summer window and the Portugal international
shares the same agent as Mourinho in Jorge Mendes.
Mourinho is
understood to have discussed his transfer plans when Mendes recently visited
him at The Lowry Hotel.
Ashley Young
is also interesting Everton, as well as former club Watford, West Brom and
Swansea. It is understood Mourinho has informed Young he wants to keep him
beyond the winter window.
Mourinho is
also believed to be keen on retaining Matteo Darmian following his recent
resurgence. The Italian has started the last six Premier League games and had
the privilege of being one of the rested first-teamers for last week’s tie
against Zorya.
The Italian
had appeared just twice before Antonio Valencia fractured his arm in late
October and was heavily linked with Internazionale before Frank de Boer was
sacked.
