The Ondo State Governor-elect, Chief Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN), on Wednesday, met with Governor Olusegun Mimiko at the governor’s office, Alagbaka, Akure, the Ondo State capital.
The meeting of the duo was the first after the November 26 governorship election, which was won by Akeredolu, after defeating the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr. Eyitayo Jegede (SAN), and 26 other candidates in the poll.
The governor-elect of the All Progressives Congress said he was on a courtesy visit to Mimiko.
Speaking after the meeting, Mimiko declared that the transition programme to usher in a new government in the state in February, 2017, would be smooth and seamless.
He noted that in the history of the state, it would be the first time that the state would witness a seamless transition from a civilian government to another civilian government.
He pledged his support to ensure that Akeredolu succeeded in the task of governing the state.
The governor stated, “It is unusual for an incoming governor to be this generous. We are making history because in the history of this state, this is the first civilian-to-civilian transition that will be seamless and I’m proud to be part of this history.”
Mimiko, who noted that peace was one of the greatest achievements of his administration, urged the governor-elect to sustain the feat.
Akeredolu commended Mimiko for the service he had rendered to the state and the nation at large, saying the governor had displayed exemplary leadership quality in the various capacities he had served.
The governor-elect visited Mimiko in company with some chieftains of the APC, including the state’s Deputy Chairman of the APC, Mr. Ade Adetimehin; a former member of the House of Representatives, Mr. Sunday Abegunde; a former Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Mr. Victor Olabimtan; and the Chief Press Secretary to the late Dr. Olusegun Agagu, Mr. Yemi Olowolabi, among others.
Akeredolu added, “We all owe you (Mimiko) a debt of gratitude for the service you rendered to this great state. It may be difficult for many people to surpass your track record and achievements as you have served to the best of your ability.”
Speaking with journalists after the meeting, the governor-elect promised to perform better than Mimiko in his administration, stressing that he would continue from where his predecessor stopped.
