Zenit and
Chelsea have reached an agreement for the transfer of one of Europe’s top
defenders.
The Serbian
international defender has signed a 2.5 year deal to stay in St.Petersburg
after nine successful years at Chelsea.
Ivanovic
started his professional career with FK Srem, his hometown club before quickly
moving to OFK Beograd in December 2003 after just 19 games. In 2006 he was
snapped up by Lokomotiv Moscow where he impressed and won the Russian Cup. His
spell in Russia brought him to the attention of the English Premier League’s
Chelsea who secured his services in the January 2008 transfer window. At
Chelsea Branislav won the Premier League twice, the FA Cup three times, the
Champions League and the UEFA Europa League and played over 250 games with the
London club. He has twice been voted Serbian footballer of the year and
captains his national side, where he has won 92 caps and scored 12 goals.
The
blue-white-sky blues are delighted to welcome Branislav Ivanovic to St.
Petersburg and we’re sure he will be a huge success at Zenit!
