''Stop extrajudicial executions and torture in Nigeria'' - Amnesty Nigeria

As received from source:

Across Nigeria, security forces are perpetrating serious crimes such as extrajudicial executions and torture. Human rights organisations and defenders are also being
increasingly targeted. And no one is being held to account.

The recent protests by a group of people against Amnesty Nigeria reflects a shrinking space for civil society activism in Nigeria. This needs to stop.

We now have over 50,000 Amnesty members and supporters in Nigeria, and your voices are vital to help us continue our campaigning to stop human rights abuses in this country.

As you may be aware, between 2015 and 2016, Nigeria’s security forces shot at peaceful pro-Biafra protesters in various locations across the southeast of the country. Many people were killed, injured and many more arrested and detained, in some cases without access to the outside world. Hundreds were subjected to torture and other forms of ill-treatment. The suspected perpetrators have not been held to account. The victims are yet to get justice.

.

Please call on the Governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano, to investigate the killings of at least 150 pro-Biafra activists and supporters in South-east Nigeria.

The Anambra State authorities should investigate these violations and ensure that those found guilty are brought to justice.
