Arsene Wenger
has revealed that it is up to Arsenal to announce his future at the club and
not him.
The long-term
Arsenal manager had been under intense pressure to call time on his 20-year
reign as manager of the Gunners.
And while he
says he has made a deciaion he is yet to make it known to the public, whl are
eagerly waiting on what it is.
Asked whether
the announcement would come from him or Arsenal, Wenger said: “From the club.
“I have
nothing to add. Of course [I am planning for pre-season games], but no [that
does not suggest anything] – that suggests that I do my job, which is to plan
for the future of the club.
“I cannot tell
you now [if the announcement will be before the end of the season] because I
don’t know. I’m focused now on the next game.”
Wenger was
then asked on three different occasions if he could confirm the existence of a
two-year contract offered to him by the club, but he would give no answer.
“I have spoken
enough about that,” he said. “I have nothing to add on that. I cannot tell you
anything more than I said many times.
“I can
understand that the subject is maybe of an interest but to me what is of
interest is what is happening on the football pitch.
“Sport is
about your next performance. It is down to you to change things.
“What is to be
professional is to focus on what is important – that means performance.”
