Suspected burglars have invaded the Imo State House of
Assembly complex, carting away valuables
including electronics and vital documents belonging to lawmakers.
It was
gathered that the thieves gained entry into the offices of the lawmakers from
the ceiling. This would be the third invasion of the hallowed chambers of
the assembly since the beginning of the
year.
Emmanuel
Orie, representing Ohaji/Egbema state
constituency whose office was burgled also disclosed that three of his colleagues
also had their offices vandalised.
“My office
and three other of my colleagues, Mike Ihenatu (Aboh Mbaise), Uche Oguwuike
(Ikeduru) and Uche Agabiga(Orsu) were vandalised by armed men whom we learnt
came through the ceiling, carted away electronics, office equipment and some
vital documents.”
According to to the Sun news; A staff of
the Assembly who does not want his name to be mentioned told Daily Sun that
they got to know about the incident when
staff of the lawmakers who reported for duties yesterday noticed that the
chairs in their offices had been turned upside down while computers, documents and television were
missing.

Secretary to the speaker, Ben Ilochonwu confirmed the development.
However,
when contacted,
Imo State
Police Command Public Relations Officer, Andrew Enwerem who confirmed the
incident added that the matter was under
investigation.
