Boko Haram terrorists ambushed a police convoy in Borno State on
Tuesday, killing at least one officer in the subsequent gun duel and leaving 16
policewomen missing, a
police source told SaharaReporters.
According to the source, the ambush happened about 10 km away from
Maiduguri while the police were on their way to Lassa for the funeral of a
police sergeant attached to the University of Maiduguri.
He said they received a report that their personnel had been ambushed
near Molai.
"One was shot dead, two sustained gun wounds [and were] brought to
the [University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital] and 16 are missing now,"
the source told our correspondent.
Spokesperson to the Nigerian police, Jimoh Moshood, confirmed the
report but he said there is only one police personnel missing. He added that
rescue operations are ongoing.
