The Ondo State House of Assembly passed the appropriation bill for the
2017 budget, totaling N170 billion, into law on Monday.
The bill was passed after the Chair of the House Committee on Finance
and Appropriation, Sunday Olajide, submitted his report before the lawmakers.
On June 6, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu sent the budget with a total sum
of N169.720 billion to the members of the State Assembly for the 2017 fiscal
year.
In the budget, the sum the of N9.123 billion was earmarked for
recurrent expenditures while N58.097 billion was allocated for capital
projects.
On Monday, the Assembly suddenly announced an addition of N1.126
billion to the budget during a deliberation among members before it was finally
passed into law at the plenary session, according to Assembly Speaker David
Oloyelogun, who confirmed the development to our correspondent.
According to Saharareporters, Mr. Oloyelogun explained that the passage of the budget was delayed due
to the scrutiny of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, adding
that the committee recommended that the budget be increased to N170 billion.
"The increment will help some of the government ministries,
departments and agencies to execute projects already initiated,” he said.
Mr. Oloyelogun disclosed that the budget would be sent to the governor
for his assent, after which the executives will begin to implement the contents
of the budget.
