The IGP, who
was in Kano on a condolence visit to the family of Yusuf Maitama Sule, at the
weekend, said the move would enable Nigeria Police meet the United Nations’
requirement of one police to 400 citizens.
He explained
that the recruitment, which would capture largely the rank and file cadre,
would be sustained for the next five years, as no such exercise has been
conducted since 2011.
He lamented
dwindling resources to power sufficiently logistics and activities of the force
in line with international best standard.
On the quit
notice issued by a coalition of Northern Youths to people of Igbo extraction
living in the North, the IGP insisted that the Police maintains its initial
position on the assurance of security of lives and property of all Nigerians,
irrespective of where they reside.
