As part of
deterrent measures to stamp out rape, Zimbabwean Information minister
Christopher Mushohwe has revealed that the government has proposed a mandatory
60-year jail sentence for people convicted of raping minors aged 12 years and
below, and the disabled, while a 40-year prison term is to stand for all rape
cases. The proposals were said to have been made in Cabinet and would help as a
guide to the proposed amendments to the Criminal Law Act.
