Job
Description Shell Energy Australia (SEAU) is the domestic energy marketing and
trading arm for Shell within Australia. The Brisbane based Short Term Trading
and Scheduling Team within SEAU is responsible for balancing upstream
production an
d LNG liquefaction for the Shell operated QGC project in the
safest, most efficient and most economical manner possible. As part of this
team, the Trader will identify daily and weekly opportunities to create value
for QGC and SEAU by executing gas and energy trades with Australian East Coast
gas and power participants. Additionally, the team will manage and build upon a
portfolio of purchases and sales within the domestic Australian market and look
for opportunities to add value.
The Short
Term Trading and Scheduling Team works with QGC Production Operations, QGC
commercial operations, and external parties to aggregate and optimise exposures
for various commodities including natural gas and electricity. This includes
physical gas sales/purchases, storage, and transport optimization. The Short
Term Gas & Energy Trader will be expected to build an in-depth
understanding of QGC’s commercial contracts and make informed decisions to
protect and create value for QGC. In fulfilling the requirements of the role,
the position will liaise with counterparties to QGC’s contracts for commodity
related transactions (including purchases, sales, processing, and
transmission/transportation).
The team is
required to operate within strict constraints and obligations of Shell safety
and compliance standards, contractual agreements, pre-defined limits, and
market/regulatory requirements.
Requirements
The successful applicant will have a strong commercial mindset with the ability
to identify and execute, be a driven self-starter with a desire to maximize
return on commercial opportunities and be familiar with financial markets as a
minimum. You must be able to optimise a portfolio including the systematic use
of analytical tools to optimise value. Ideally, we are looking for a candidate
that has specific experience in the commercial gas industry however that is not
a prerequisite. For those candidates without that experience we are looking for
individuals with a demonstrable record of achievement through work or otherwise
in either within a commercial discipline (negotiations, contracting, capex
projects), analysis (markets, valuations, economics) or technical or
Engineering experience with strong commercial acumen. We would expect all
candidates to be able to show an interest in the oil and gas industry.
The role
requires you to be a complex problem solver and work in a complex
cross-functional environment. You will need the ability to develop networks and
influence others through your excellent communication skills. We are looking
for a resilient individual that has great attention to detail and can remain
calm under high pressure situation.
A
Self-starter with abundance of energy and enthusiasm with a creative flare with
your commercial acumen and an understanding of value creation you will be able
to develop and maintain strong relationships with external gas and power
counterparties. The successful candidate must be willing to work a shift roster
in the Brisbane office.
