The Cross River State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC)
has defied court processes served it by a faction and elected a new chairman.
The APC faction in the state had through one King Edom Vincent Odey
filed suit, FHC/ABJ/C5/193/2018, seeking an order “restraining the 1st defendant
(APC), whether by itself, the national chairman or any other officer authorised
by him from conducting the special congress for the election of a state
chairman for the Cross River State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress
slated for February 24, 2018.”
The plaintiff prayed the court for “an order of mandatory injunction,
restraining the 2nd defendant (Independent National Electoral Commission)
howsoever, from observing or recognising the directive of the 1st defendant for
the conduct of a special state congress to elect the state chairman of its
chapter.”
But defying the order, some national officers of the party, led by
Mohammed Idabawa, yesterday, went ahead to conduct the election at the party
secretariat, along Barracks Road, which saw Mr. Etim John, emerge as the new
chairman.
