Cesc
Fabregas is set to be frozen out at Chelsea this season - despite claiming he
has the backing of boss Antonio Conte.
Fabregas denied
on social media last weekend that he had told by Conte that he is free
to leave the club.
But
the Spain international is not seen as a first-team starter under Chelsea ’s new
manager and the Blues are also prepared to listen to offers for him - though so
far there have been none, and Wednesday night's transfer deadline just a day
away.
Midfielder Fabregas ,
who was a regular last season under first Jose Mourinho and then interim
manager Guus Hiddink, has featured in only two of Chelsea’s four games so far
this season and started just one of those.
Contact
has been made with a number of clubs in Italy and his homeland without success,
leaving the 29-year-old facing up to life as a squad player at Stamford Bridge
this season.
The
former Arsenal captain’s situation will also have an effect on his
international chances.
While
his Stamford Bridge team-mates Diego Costa and Juan Mata have been recalled for
the Spain squad to face Belgium and Liechtenstein in World Cup qualifiers next
week, Fabregas - who has over 100 caps - has been left out by new boss Julen
Lopetegui.
Chelsea
star Eden Hazard explains why Blues teammate N'Golo Kante is ''like a rat''
As
we revealed earlier this summer, Fabregas’ long-term future was plunged into
doubt when the Blues began seeking new recruits in midfield.
Conte
wants more energy in that part of the pitch following the failings of last
season, which saw champions Chelsea finish only tenth and sack Mourinho.
Manchester
United had been seen as a possible destination for a man who was one of
Mourinho’s first signings two years ago as he began building a team that would
go on to lift the title. But the Special One has decided against a reunion.
