Former Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli was on the verge of joining
Palermo before he completed his free transfer to Nice this summer, according to
the Serie A club’s sporting director.
Daniele Faggiano said the Sicilian side had been close to signing the
out-of-favour Italy international but failed to seal the deal as a move to
France materialised.
Balotelli is understood to have been called by Palermo president Maurizio
Zamparini and reports in Italy claim Balotelli favoured the move.
“Balotelli has been quite close to Palermo, then we lost his tracks,”
Faggiano told TV station Feel Rouge. “Someone didn’t want him to come here,”
another official added.
