Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has said his administration has
invested more on security infrastructure than any other state government in the
country.
Governor Wike stated this, yesterday, when he received medical doctors,
who staged a peaceful protest at the Government House, Port Harcourt, following
the killing of their colleague by kidnappers.
Wike assured them his administration is committed to the security of
lives and property.
The Sun news reported that the governor, who spoke through his Chief of Staff, Mr. Chukwuemeka Woke,
said crime and criminality had drastically reduced in the state because of the
administration’s investments in security.
He said every society had security issues and pointed out that despite
the reduction in insecurity, crime had not been totally eliminated.
“The Wike administration is committed to the security of every person
living and doing business in the state. That is why we have made massive
investments in security.
“I challenge any state with alternative facts to come forward and
declare. We will continue to support security agencies to make the state more secure.”
He commiserated with the doctors on the killing of their colleague,
pointing that the administration would work with security agencies to bring the
criminals to justice.
Earlier, Chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Rivers State
chapter, Dr. Datonye Alasia, said they were on a peaceful march, to draw the
attention of security agencies and the state government to the death of their
colleague, Dr. Florence Onuh, allegedly killed by kidnappers.
He said the state health sector would be troubled if health professionals were under threat from
criminals .
“It is a peaceful walk; the essence is to make people realise that human
life should be given more value. We see that a lot of our youths are given to
violent crime and they do it without conscience and against community leaders,
the doctor and others. There should be more proactive plans to make sure that
the health facilities are given adequate security.”
