Chelsea are poised
to complete the £20million signing of Fiorentina full-back Marcos Alonso who is
in London for a medical.
The former Bolton and
Sunderland left-back is also able to play in central defence if
needed.
Blues boss Antonio Conte is continuing to seek
reinforcements in central defence.
But he is now examining short-term options with
Chelsea refusing to meet valuations they regard as exorbitant for AC Milan’s
Alessio Romagnoli and Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly.
Meanwhile, Cesc Fabregas is set to be frozen out at
Chelsea this season - despite claiming he has the backing of boss Conte.
The Spain international is not seen as a first-team
starter under Chelsea ’s new manager and the Blues are also prepared to listen
to offers for him - though so far there have been none, and Wednesday night's
transfer deadline just a day away.
